getting here

Close to Geneva, Chatel is one of the easiest resorts to get to all year round

One of the great attractions of a holiday in Châtel is the ease of getting here. With Geneva Airport only 90 minutes away, and excellent motorway and rail links, it's one of the easiest resorts to get to all year round.

Flight Options

If you choose to fly into Geneva Airport (82km away) there are several airlines to choose from including EasyJet, Jet 2, British Airways, FlyBE and Swiss Air.  You can also fly to Chambery (97km away) or Grenoble (188km away).

Airport Transfers - Private or shared minibus

Transfers from Geneva Airport are available 7 days a week during both the winter and summer season.  There are a number of excellent transfers companies based in Châtel.  We recommend the following:

Airport Transfers - Bus

Two buses run on Saturdays during most of the winter season - book them online at www.altibus.com. Transfer time approx 2hrs. Cost  is roughly €60 per adult return (cheaper prices for groups of 4 adults). Child is half adult rate (5-10yrs). Under 5s travel free.  Change bus at Thonon for Châtel. Alternatively, check out Autocars SAT.

Fly / Drive

This is a great option - and definitely the best way to get here from Chambery and Grenoble airports. Although Châtel has an excellent free bus service, having a car gives you even more flexibility when getting around the resort and sightseeing around this area of France and Switzerland.  If you wish to hire a car from Geneva we recommend you hire vehicles from the Swiss side of Geneva airport.  Rentalcars.com is a good place to find your car.  We have private parking for 3 cars at Chalet Isobel.

By Rail

Travel to Thonon-les-Bains SNCF railway station (TGV – high speed train).  Transfer from there to Châtel by bus (40kms).  Information and bookings: www.sncf.com.

Alternatively, travel to Aigle or Monthey railway stations (Switzerland).  Transfer to Châtel by taxi (25kms).  Information and bookings: www.cff.ch.

Self Drive

Bringing your own car gives you maximum flexibility for your ski or summer holiday. Once you have crossed the channel either by ferry or euro tunnel the distance from Calais to Châtel is around 550 miles which can be done in one day (although a two day trip with a stop off on route is recommended). Take the A6 motorway via Macon followed by the A40 motorway towards Geneva. Exit at Annemasse, Thonon, Châtel.  From Northern Europe, access via the Swiss motorway towards Martigny. Exit Portes du Soleil, 20 minutes from Châtel.  Find the best route on Google Maps or www.viamichelin.co.uk.  We have private parking for 3 cars at Chalet Isobel.
