Huge number of great climbs accessible from Chalet Isobel
A perfect base for cycling in the Alps
Châtel, nestled high into the Abondance valley at an altitude of 1200m, is a wonderful base for road cycling in the Alps.
Situated on the French/Swiss border there is an endless list of amazing routes for all abilities – there is a reason that Team Sky have used Châtel for several years in preparation for the Tour de France. (As Tim Kerrison, Team Sky's Head of Performance Support, has said "the cycling options from Châtel are fantastic, with dozens of great climbs of varying length and severity within easy access”). If Team Sky have choosen to come to Châtel to ride, then perhaps you should do so too!
From any one of the famous Alpine climbs that have featured in the Tour de France, Criterium de Dauphine or the Tour de Romandie, to the Rhone Valley and around Lake Geneva, this area offers huge variety set in beautiful scenery.
You can take on the Col de Bassachaux, Col de Joux Plane, Col de Corbier or Col de la Forclaz – and access the routes over to Morzine and Avoriaz where stages of the Tour have finished in the past.
Whether you want to challenge yourself as much as is physically possible, or simply go on beautiful rides with stunning views, the routes on offer from Châtel are such that there is something for everyone.
Chalet Isobel is perfectly set up for road cycling holidays. We have secure bike storage in the basement of our beautiful chalet in Châtel, and the 8 person hot tub is ready and waiting to ease your tired muscles at the end of a hard day in the mountains!
